PATRICK MOUG – executive producer, writer, director, actor

In 1997 Patrick Moug began studying acting, writing and directing at Jeff Daniels’ Purple Rose Theater in Chelsea, MI.  Patrick has worked professionally with directors Jeff Daniels, Guy Sanville (Detroit Free Press Director of the Year – 1998, 1999) and Michael Walker (Toronto Film Festival – 1999 CHASING SLEEP). Patrick will be making his directorial debut in August 2002 with the filming of THE UGLY ONE. In May 2003 he will travel to South Carolina to direct a film written by Tom Morgan. BROTHERS is based on a true, unsolved murder which took place over eight years ago.

In the short time since joining Purple Rose, Patrick has become a professional actor earning both his Screen Actors Guild and Equity membership in 2001.  His SAG film credits include CHASING SLEEP and SUPER SUCKER.  Prior to joining the guild, Patrick has appeared in several local commercials, industrial and independent films. He performed on stage at Detroit’s Little Gem Theater in THE TROPICAL PICKLE where he understudied the role of Ed.  Patrick was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a comedy (Ann Arbor News – 2000) for his role in SCIENCE FRICTION produced at the Performance Network Theater.

As a writer, in addition to THE UGLY ONE, Patrick has written the police drama MICHIGAN AUTUMN scheduled to be filmed in August / September 2003. His plays for the stage ( CAPTAIN BEEFALO and THE FIFTY NINERS ) were optioned by the Purple Rose Theater. CAPTAIN BEEFALO was produced for the stage at Genitti’s Theater of Northville(1999).

Patrick was raised in Detroit, graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1980.  He attended the University of Connecticut on a football scholarship where he was awarded the Charles Waring Scholar Athlete award 1983.  A three year varsity letter winner, Patrick was All Conference his senior year (1983) and in 1998 was nominated to the Connecticut’s All Century football team. After graduating, with a Bachelors of Art in 1984, he returned home to Michigan.  He worked as an assistant manager at Joe Muer Sea Food in Detroit until he was hired by the Livonia Police Department in 1988.

Shortly after being hired as a police cadet, he graduated from the Wayne County Regional Police Academy (class president – August 1989). During his police career he has served as an uniformed officer, a member of the Special Operations Unit, a SWAT team member, a defensive tactics instructor, a detective assigned to the Sex Crimes Unit, a patrol sergeant and currently a detective sergeant.
